Frequently Asked Questions

Registration & Teams

Teams may register up to 8 players on the team. These 8 players must be present by the first game of the tournament, and their identities must be verified by a tournament official during registration. Failure to present credentials at this time will result in forfeiture of all games where non-verified players participate in.

Teams may be required to forfeit games if any of the following conditions pertain to any team participating in the tournament: A team has less than four rostered players on the ice and ready to play at the time the initial game horn sounds to begin play. (teams will be given one minute grace if players are on site and running late) A team has a player that has not cleared validation through registration from a tournament official. The on-ice game official, in conjunction with the acting rink official, shall be the final authority on game forfeitures.

Players must be at least 18 years old as of December 31. All players must be registered with USA Hockey and carry a valid USA Hockey number. Players currently on Youth hockey rosters (18U, High School) are not permitted.

Game Information

Unlike traditional ice hockey games, penalties are not assessed in the same manner. However, games are still subject to penalties. Penalties are subject to the judgment of the game's on-ice official, who has the authority based on the severity of the penalty to award one of the following two penalties: For minor infractions, on-ice official may award puck possession to the team on whom the infraction occurred. Minor infractions may include tripping, cross checking, holding, excessive body contact, or any minor infraction seen in typical ice hockey games that would award a two-minute minor penalty. For infractions that take on more severity, the on-ice official may award one goal to the team on whom the infraction had occurred. These infractions include body checking, blocking the goal with something other than a stick blade or a skate blade, or slap shots where the stick is raised higher than waist high.

The Bill Collier Ice Arena is split into two ice surfaces using temporary boards that run the width of the ice down the center line of the rink. This creates ice surfaces that are 65' wide by 100' long. Pond hockey goals are situated between 3-6' from the back walls of each rink.

Games consist of two 20-minute halves with a 2-minute halftime. The clock runs continuously without stoppages. Teams play 4v4 with no goalies. Substitutions can be made on-the-fly during play.

During pool play, games can end in ties (1 point each). During elimination games, there's sudden death overtime for up to 3 minutes. If still tied, it goes to a sudden death shootout with penalty shots taken from 20 feet out.

All players must wear hockey helmets with fastened chin straps and hockey skates. Protective equipment is optional but highly recommended. Teams must have both light and dark jerseys (home teams wear dark).

No checking, no slapshots, no goaltending (camping in crease), no laying on ice to protect goal, no setting picks in offensive zone. Contacting the puck with stick above waist results in loss of possession.
